Conventional Treads

We carry conventional treads, 1 1/16" thick, 10 ½" wide, in standard lengths, in stock, in yellow Birch, and red Oak, and some in hard Maple.  In Birch and Maple we offer the uniform colour as a select grade, and colour variation is known as natural grade.   These treads are made with 4-7 pieces of solid wood, the industrial standard.  Extra wide is easily done. There is a good need for this stock material, and the handrail, newel posts, balusters that all go with it.  Returns on the regular treads, full false treads, and winders are all available to both builders and home owners.

Non-Conventional Treads

Where we shine is by what we can make that is NOT conventional!  You choose the wood.  This of course includes the Birch, red Oak, and hard Maple, but also white Ash, Beech, black Cherry, white Oak, Jatoba, and black Walnut . You choose the thickness (e.g. 1 ½", 2", 2 ½", 3"), the width and length, and the edge details~ and we'll make it for you.  For open stair design, we can manufacture the wooden stringers, so to be in keeping with the character of the thicker treads, and character of the house. In some species, we can provide the edge shape from the tree itself, known as live edge.  Live edge means the shape from under the bark of the tree itself before it was sawn into boards.  We can offer design input for metal stringers, balusters, and handrail if another texture and material is being conceived.
